Patricia Dowden

Patricia Dowden is president and CEO of Center for Business Ethics and Corporate Governance (www.ethicsrussia.org) , a former Russian non-commercial partnership founded in 2000, now a U.S. 501C3; and Managing Director of the Russian Compliance Alliance (www.compliancealliance.ru), a non-commercial on-line self-evaluation questionnaire whose purpose is to assess a company’s business ethics culture and practices. This tool has been endorsed by the B20 Collective-Action Hub, Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Working Group, the UN Global Compact, and the Public Procurement Institute (Russia).
Ms. Dowden’s business experience includes 27 years as a commercial banking executive. She managed marketing, product development, strategic planning, and organizational development functions and also served on the Federal Reserve Large Dollar Payment System Risk Advisory Group. She has worked in Russia since 1997, beginning with a World Bank consultancy at Alfa Bank. Her Russia/CIS experience includes managing consulting projects, conducting Balanced Scorecard workshops for entrepreneurs, and lecturing at major Russian conferences and universities on corruption-related issues. She served on the board of Center for Citizen Initiatives, which has provided U.S. internships for more than 6 000 entrepreneurs from Russia’s regions.
She has co-authored, with the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School Professor Philip Nichols, several publications on the topic of stakeholder trust as metric to implement a business ethics culture. Some of these are available online: link 1; link 2; and link 3.
Ms. Dowden holds a BS from University of North Carolina (Phi Beta Kappa) and an MBA (Finance) from Georgia State University. She is a member of the Advisory Board of the Eurasia Foundation.
